Sally and David’s Story ~
Whew…what a story!! David and I had been dating for 6 months on June 22, 2011. The one problem was that date was we both worked that night. We opted to go out the next night and celebrate. He surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses, carnations, and orchids and took me out for a wonderful and delicious dinner to the place we had our first real date…Harry & Izzy’s in downtown Indianapolis. We had a delightful time. If a proposal was to happen…I assumed it would be during dinner that night. No proposal…but the evening was just as wonderful without it! The next day he came over…and I, being a slacker girlfriend, waited to give him a gift I had for him that day in celebration of the time we’d been together! He was adamant he did not want to open my gift until after that evening. His mom had invited me to a Park Lane jewelry part weeks prior, so we intended to spend the evening at his house with his family and I would go to his mom’s jewelry party. We spent the whole day together being lazy not doing much of anything. When it was time to go, we headed to his house. We got there and everything seemed “normal”. I went into the kitchen and tried talking to his 16 year-old sister, Hannah ,and she hardly talked to me. She couldn’t even look me in the eye. I thought nothing of it and the night went on. David’s mom, grandma, sister, and I all gawked over the jewelry while David and his dad talked guy talk outside. The party was winding to an end and David went out to the car and brought the gift I had for him in. He took it to his room, and took a little longer than he needed. His dad hollered at him to stop peeking! He left his room and went straight to the bathroom…He wasn’t aciting quite himself. The party was over and David announced he was ready for his gift. He took me into his room and very casually asked me to look at the new shoe rack he bought. (His sneaky tactic to get his door closed)! I sat on his bed and he stood in his room. I handed him his gift (a framed poem I wrote and jar full of 6 more months worth of Hershey’s hugs and kisses). He loved them both! He then very slyly said he also had a gift for me! I looked at him and smiled, not sure what to expect!! He pointed to his nightstand and to a little white box. I looked at it and picked it up in slow motion. I looked at him and then at the box. My heart racing, I opened the box…it was empty! I looked up at David, he was beaming! He looked at me with a smile and said, “Oh, here is your real gift.” He held out a mahogany jewelry box. I couldn’t move. I’m not sure I was even breathing. In my head all I kept thinking was…it could be earrings! Finally, he opened the box and said a few words (I heard them but don’t remember them!). He got down on one knee and the one thing I did manage to hear was, “Sally, will you marry me?” Without missing a beat I screamed, “YES!!” After 15 minutes of laughing, crying, and hugging, reality set in…I am going to be Mrs. David Augsburger…we are getting married!! We shared the news with our families, and word spread quickly! David surprised me bigger than I have ever been surprised before on June 23, 2011! It didn’t take long before we decided January 14, 2012 will be our wedding day!!

Jennifer & Bryan’s Engagement Story
September 14th, 2011 {No Comments »}
Jennifer Stewart & Bryan Davis
Wedding Date: April 28, 2012
Bryan’s Story~
The Love Of My Life…
I recently had the honor of my truly incredible girlfriend, Jennifer, answering my
question proposing marriage in the affirmative. It felt great to finally ask
her after months of planning! It made for what will be the most memorable
birthday I will ever have, and I anticipate many years of happiness ahead of us
as we begin our life together.
I knew I had to make the proposal special for her. She deserved something
surprising and memorable. Further, it had to be a story worth telling over and
over again…
Our third date was the First Friday event on Massachusetts Avenue
on Friday, October 1, 2010.
First Friday is
an event where, on the first Friday of every month, the art galleries and shops
along Massachusetts
Avenue in Indianapolis open their doors and invite the
public to view displays of local artwork; it is also a great opportunity to walk
along with someone, talking and getting to know them.
As we walked from gallery to gallery, I fell more and
more in love with her that night. I knew that she would be the woman I would
spend the rest of my life making happy (or at least trying to do my best…).
Because of the significance of First Friday on Mass Ave, I knew it
had to be incorporated into my proposal.
I began looking at the calendar to pick the best First Friday to propose. In
reviewing the possible dates, I realized that my birthday was going to fall on
the first Friday of June. I quickly decided that this would be the perfect day
to propose…I knew she would not suspect a thing on my birthday. For all she
knew, we were going to go out with my Brother and his fiancé to celebrate my
birthday. Perfect! Furthermore, as a bonus, I would never forget the date on
which I proposed

BONUS! – Thank you, Andrew, for realizing that’s how I
roll…
Now that I knew when, I needed to figure out how…It
seemed the only logical way to propose would be to incorporate some artwork in
one of the galleries. I knew she wanted something relatively small and
intimate, so I decided to contact
The Art Bank Gallery,
which has many small rooms. I
thought (emphasis on thought!) this
would be the best way to avoid an overly public proposal…
Dan at The Art Bank was instrumental in the success of my
proposal, and I thank him immensely. He was onboard from the moment I contacted
him in March, and he went out of his way to make sure it was a special event for
Jennifer and me.
On April 30, my Brother, Justin, and his fiancé,
Lynnette, were kind enough to meet me at the IMA at 9:00 AM to help create the
photograph which would be the basis for the proposal. He took a series of five
photos of me holding up signs in front of
Robert
Indiana’s “LOVE” sculpture on the grounds of the IMA. He compiled each of
the five images into one composite image which showed me holding signs that,
together, stated. “I, Bryan…Propose That…You, Jen…Be My Wife…Marry
Me?”.
And so the plan progressed…I had the image printed on a
16”x 20” canvas, and chose to add some more personalization by doing a
paint-over with acrylic paints. Big props to my Nana and Papa French for the
artistic genes, and my high school art teacher, Mrs. Martin for her tutelage. I
know Nana and Mrs. Martin would be proud, and are surely smiling down from
Heaven…After putting the finishing touches on the canvas, I procured a frame and
prepared the piece to be hung in The Art Bank.
Having wrapped up the details, my next step was to secure
the blessing of Jennifer’s parents. I was hoping to find time during a family
gathering, but given the fact that Jen was on high alert for signs of an
upcoming proposal, I thought it would be best to set aside some time to meet
with them privately. Jim and Susan were kind enough to grant me their blessing
over a super secret dinner in Shelbyville on Monday, May 16th. And
so the plan progressed…
Everyone did a great job of keeping my secret plan over
the next few weeks, even over Memorial Day Weekend – Thank you, Susan

. The
week of my birthday was only a four day work week, and should have been short.
It was the longest four days of my life…
Finally, Friday, June 3 arrived! I had dropped off the
painting at The Art Bank the week before, and everything was falling into
place. I was paranoid about losing the ring in my pocket while at work that
day, so I decided to sew it into the fabric of my pocket. It seemed like a
great idea at the time, but lead to a struggle when attempting to extract the
ring before popping the question!
As we arrived at The Art Bank, I was fortunate enough to
find a parking spot right next to the building – I think it was God’s way of
helping out as we were running behind schedule….We perused the gallery,
discussing paintings that would look good in Jennifer’s new house. My heart was
pounding, and I was concerned Jen would notice the beads of sweat I felt forming
on my unusually large forehead (thank you, receding hairline…) Fortunately, she
was still unaware as to what was about to happen…
I am a huge nerd, so I had planned the moment with Justin and Lynnette, providing
a schematic as to how everything was going to happen. We would go upstairs, and
I would lead Jen around the room and circle back to the painting on the wall.
It was going to be perfect!
We proceeded upstairs to the room in which the painting
was hung. Much to my surprise, the room was packed with the gallery artists who
knew what was about to happen. To intimidate me further, there was also a
Channel 8 News camera in the room! My small, intimate, and non-public proposal
had quickly transformed into quite an ordeal! The room was far too crowded for
my plan to work…
Jennifer was wary of going into the room due to the sheer
number of people, and the presence of the camera. I panicked…Things are sort of
a blur, but I believe I actually pushed her into the room. I guided her to the
painting, and as she read the signs and put it all together, I dropped to one
knee and sputtered out the words as best at I could. I am uncertain as to what
I actually said, but I do know that it is not what I planned on saying. All I
know for sure is that I was able to end with, “Will you marry me?”, to which she
replied “Yes”!
Never in a million years did I think we would end up on
the news…So much for a simple and intimate proposal! I am happy that it worked
out the way it did, even with all the unanticipated publicity. It turns out,
one of the artists on display in the gallery, Joy Hernandez, is also a
videographer for the Channel 8 news team. She was kind enough to film the
happenings for me, and was also able to get us on the 6:00 news the next day.
Unbelievable!
So here I am, 4 days later, still wondering if this has
all been a dream. So many aspects are surreal, and I am having difficulty
believing everything came together so well. God is great, my friends. I
surprised her, it was certainly memorable, and we will definitely have a story
worth repeating over and over again….
I am so blessed to have Jennifer in my life, and even more blessed to have the
opportunity to call her my fiancé, and eventually wife…Thanks be to God, and to
everyone else who helped me pull this off!

- Kelly had her make up done by Kiralee at Eyemax Studio in Fishers.

- Kelly and Heath chose to get married at the State House on a beautiful Autumn afternoon!

As leaves from the trees were falling all around the city, leaves were also thrown by the guests as the newly weds exited the State House and made their way to their antique limo.

-
After Kelly and Heath said, ‘I DO!’ they were picked up in an antique limo and driven downtown to be photographed for the first time as husband and wife!

-
Stopping traffic on the circle!
Kelly and Heath met their guests at the Rathskellar for a fabulous reception!

Kelly and Heath’s cake was not only beautiful, but delicious as well!! Paige, from Sweet Seductions, did a fantastic job with it!
Kelly’s flowers incorporated the beautiful hues of Autumn. Her flowers were stunning with the Hypericum berries and Fuji Mums!

Kelly and Heath shared their first dance together as Husband and Wife. Then the party really got started with open dancing!

After the wedding day celebrations were over, Kelly decided to do an amazing photo shoot as she ‘Trashed the dress’. The dress looked beautiful on Kelly on her wedding day, and made her look like a Princess during this photo shoot as well.

We would like to thank Kelly and Heath for letting us be a part of their special day! We also need to give credit to their awesome vendors who helped make their day perfect!

How we got engaged
I went to see my step sister and bridesmaid, Natalie, in Nashville for a girl’s weekend in October with my mom as well. It was very fun, but after being long distance with Alex for 2 years or so, I obviously missed Alex (and our animals!) even after the first day. Although a great trip, when I returned home, we realized how even 2 days apart made us miss each other beyond belief and we never want to lose that again. We both return from work the next day with Alex carrying sunflowers (my favorite), and says he missed me so much after that weekend, he realized he never wants to lose me and asks me to marry him, and I cried knowing I had realized and hoped for the same thing.
From here, my mom long ago had given me her old engagement ring from my biological father, and I took the diamond and fit it into my favorite setting to make out engagement official and still have my family part of it with me. It was much more special this way, Alex and I always knew this was how the ring was going to go. Two days of suspense until I got my ring and we began announcing our great news to family and close friends

Jordan & Luke’s Engagement Story

Jordan Booth & Luke Grimes
Wedding Date: July 1, 2012
Jordan’s Story ~
Our journey began four years ago on July 2, 2007. It seems
only fitting that my favorite coffee shop, “Starbucks” would be the perfect
place were he would ask me to date him. Our first date, July 4th was
filled with celebration and extravagant firework displays. The summers that
followed were filled with endless dates from: swing dancing the night away,
building sand castles on Saint George Island, cooking gourmet meals including
coconut umbrella drinks, and many marathon races throughout our relationship. During
our time together we have embarked on many adventures, such as: fishing on the
lake, camping in Minnesota, golfing, road trips across the country,
experiencing sushi (and loving it), skiing the hills of Minnesota, hiking,
Broadway shows in New York, and shopping in Minneapolis. We both have spent the past four years
working on our college degrees while being in different cities and sometimes in
different countries. In 2011 while he was spending a semester in Greece; I was
able to fly and spend my spring break with my love traveling through London and
France. It was important for both of us to maintain a pure relationship in
Christ, and not only are we each others best friends, but we encourage each
other in our walk with the Lord. Unbeknownst to me, exactly four years after
our first date, our engagement would become official. On our four-year
anniversary we departed early in the morning for our destination of Kansas
City. After a morning of shopping and Starbucks he took me on a romantic walk
along the Plaza. Luke found a perfect spot under a shade tree along the river
walk to read me a love letter he wrote for me. After he finished he got down on
bended knee and proposed, I didn’t wait for him to even finish before I said
“Yes, Yes, Yes”. I didn’t realize a small crowd had gathered and we received a
standing ovation as we kissed to seal the deal. Our love for one another is a
living fairytale, one that will end in happily ever after.

How we got engaged
David planned a nice afternoon in Southern Indiana for the two of us. I thought we were just going hiking in Brown County and getting dinner. I had no idea he was planning on proposing. We went to Brown County State Park to hike and look at all the fall foliage. We hiked a few small trails and I took pictures of the leaves (fall is my favorite season!). We then went to Apple Works, a small apple orchard in Trafalgar, Indiana. While at Apple Works, we picked pumpkins, drank warm apple cidar, and purchased caramel apples and pumpkin bread. We walked the grounds and discovered a pumpkin patch that no one had been to. We walked and talked in our private pupmkin patch for a while before heading off to Bloomington for dinner. We dined at Esan Thai that night. Our favorite restaurant in Bloomington and the site of our first date. We ate our usual meal, chicken spring rolls, 2 chicken pad thai dinners, and 2 thai iced teas. We had a lovely meal together. David asked if I wanted to walk around campus before heading back to Indy. Of course I agreed. We had just walked out of the resaurant in the middle of the parking lot when I noticed David’s shoe was untied. I pointed out that his shoe was untied and he should tie it before walking towards campus. He bent down to tie his shoe, as I stood cluelessly watching students walk up and down Kirkwood. I then turned to him, asking what was taking so long. There was David, down on one knee, holding a ring. He blurted, “Wanna get married?!?” I replied, “Seriously?!?” I was so in shock, after realizing he was actually proposing I said yes!

Rachel & Garrett’s Engagement Story

Rachel Sipe & Garrett Kinnebrew
Wedding Date: September 10, 2011
Rachel’s Story ~
Garrett and I met through mutual friends about four years ago. The first time I saw him he was wearing scrub pants and a white t-shirt and holding a beer. Regardless of the wardrobe, I thought he was pretty cute. We all started playing a game that was similar to scrabble. Garrett challenged several of my words and I soon became annoyed. So it was not love at first sight, however it did turn to love a few years later. Garrett and I met again and we talked and talked and talked. He asked my friend for my number and we talked a lot on the phone while I was up at Bethel College. We went out on a date and three years later, he asked me to marry him. Garrett is such a special man, because he has been so patient with me. He waited 9 months for me
to kiss him, and he was my first kiss. I cannot express just how much I love him. He is truly my best friend and has been my rock through several trials in my life, one being graduate school! We went to Christmas at the zoo in December 2010. We walked around for a few hours and spent a really long time in the White River Gardens building. He was nervous and was trying to get his nerve up to ask me. I was beginning to suspect but then when they told us they were about to close, Garrett led me deeper into the building. He got down on one knee and told me that he loved me and that he was going to love me forever.
Then he asked me to marry him. It was such a sweet and beautiful moment. I love him and I am very much looking forward to marrying him!
